Ångermanälven river: 450 kilometres. The river runs through the community, and the distance from Sollefteå to the sea, makes it Sweden´s longest navigable river.
A new period began when the river valley with its enormous delta stratum consisting of sand and finer material began to rise from the sea.
As the land rose up the river “dug" into its own stratum. That in its turn led to the formation of steep silty riverbanks and the creation of a unique landscape. Those formations are called nipa or nipor.
