Welcome to Sollefteå

The town of Sollefteå with a population of approxiamtely 9.000 has developed into a service community with commercial and public service sectors.

Sollefteå was not officially recognized as a town untill 1917, but has been a wellknown marketplace as early as 1602!

The Sollefteå area and surronding river valleys also have a long history. Ancient traces of mankind have been found at Nämforsen where the 5000 year-old rock carvings prove the existence of a Stone Age settlement in this area. For several centurys iron mills were established in the villages of Graninge, Österforse, Sollefteå, Björkå and Gålsjö.

Today Sollefteå Municipality offers a large number of leisure acitvities. The countryside is varied, interesting and in certain parts unique. The climate is stable with seasonal variations. The natural conditions are certainly favourable. Modern leisure centers are available for all ages and interests.
